My Top 5 Health and Fitness Apps

27th May 2013

I'm sure I am not the only one to admit that my phone is like my third arm...

iphone, girly, pretty, iphone apps, mint green cover, iphone lace cover

I mean it does, like, pretty much everything. Why wouldn't you love it. I use my phone for all off the obvious reasons... social media, pictures, checking my makeup in the reverse camera, music etc. Recently, I have fallen even in more love with my phone as it is helping me get in shape. If you are anything like me, then the start of a 'healthy buzz' usually involves downloading about 27 apps that I look at once and then never use! Below are the few that made the cut...

1. My Fitness Pal

What is it? My Fitness Pal allows you to keep track of how many

calories you are eating in a day as well as keeping track of any exercise you do. It does all the hard work for you- all you have to do is put in your stats (height, weight etc) and whether you are trying to lose, maintain or gain weight.
Why I love it? Although I wouldn't recommend calorie counting, for people starting off this is a brilliant way of keeping track of what you are eating while learning about what's in your food- sometimes things that look healthy on your plate, aren't so healthy on your hips!
Cost? Free

2. 5K Runner

What is it? This app is aimed at complete beginners (i.e.people like me,
5k runner, fitness, running
who's idea of running is usually for the bus) or for those who need a little motivation to get up and go. It trains you to run 5K in 8weeks.
Why I love it? This is the first thing that has successfully got me to run; currently on week 5! It eases you in gently (even though you probably wont be able to walk after your 1st run) and it keeps you motivated- most workouts are 30mins-40mins and it's only 3 times per week. I don't know about you, but I would easily spend 30 minutes a day creeping on Facebook. No excuses!!
Cost? €2.89- there are other 5K apps that are free, I just like this one the best. You can download a demo version before you buy it, to see if you like it.

3. Map my Run

What is it? It keeps track of your route, duration, calories burned as well
map my run, iphone apps, fitness
as stats from your workout like your fastest run.
Why I love it? I use this with the 5K Runner app. I dunno about you but once I am finished a workout I like to actually physically see what I did- how far I ran, how many calories I burned etc. I don't think there is anything more motivating that trying to beat your personal best and more satisfying than pushing your body further than you ever thought it could to achieve your goals... WOW, I sound so sporty in that sentence!!
Cost? Free

4. Daily Workouts

Whats is it? 5 to 30 minute workouts (depending on how energetic your
daily workout, eatlivelove it, iphone app,
feeling!), with a video demonstration. You can choose the specific area you want to target; Arms, Legs, Butt, Ab, Cardio. Or you can combine them all, for a full body workout.
Why I love it? On days where I am too lazy have no time to go to the gym, I will turn up Beyonce, whip out my Yoga mat and do these in the comfort of my own pajamas. This app is idiot proof- all you have to do is copy the girl in the video- brilliant for complete beginners.
Cost? Free. I think it is €2.00 if you want to get more exercises, but they have lots to choose from so you probably won't need to.

5. Instagram

What is it? #me, #nailart and #cutepuppies aside, Instagram is home to
instagram, eatliveloveit, itsashok, health, fitness, fitness apps
a HUGE health and fitness platform, with thousands of yummy eats and simple workout going up each day.
Why I love it? If you look at who I follow on IG, the majority of people are either 1.Girls with pretty hair or 2.Fitspo accounts- everything from; motivational pictures to healthy recipes to home workouts. Also, if your like me and have a morning social media creep before you get out of bed- then seeing ridiculously hot girls with bodies to die for is great motivation to start the day!
Cost? Free

There are literally thousands of health and fitness app's out there. I am sure there are even better ones than I mentioned- BUT these are the ones I use on a daily basis and I find work for me!

All of these apps are available for iPhone and I would say Android too.
If you still have a phone that you can make your own ringtones on, then there is nothing I can do for you, ha, ha!!

Leave in the comments your favorite apps, sharing's caring! <3
